This is the sequel to Crush It!, updated for the social media landscape of 2018. Gary Vee examines how entrepreneurs have used platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and podcasting to build personal brands and businesses. Each chapter features case studies of real people who leveraged content to create careers.
The book is motivating but repetitive if you already follow Gary Vee's content. His core message has not changed: put out massive amounts of content, document instead of create, and be patient. What I appreciate is his emphasis on self-awareness -- not every platform is right for every person, and knowing your strengths determines where you should focus.
- The best time to start creating content was five years ago. The second best time is now.
- Document, do not create. Sharing your process is more authentic and sustainable than manufacturing polished content.
- Self-awareness determines platform choice. Play to your strengths instead of forcing yourself onto every platform.
- Patience is the separator. Most people quit before the compounding effect kicks in.
- Attention is the currency. Where attention goes, money follows.
Gary Vee's 'document, don't create' philosophy is why I write about my journey on this site. Instead of trying to produce polished thought-leadership content, I share what I am actually doing -- the Bali move, the studio launch, the experiments with AI automation. The writing section of this website exists because of this principle. It is also why I invested in video equipment for documenting the process of building websites with AI.
